These are being reported out of the larger eLearningGuild population and I would claim that they are likely more accurate than survey research that goes through the vendors themselves. Several of the LMS vendors appear more than once, such as Oracle. Most of the time (as is the case with Oracle) these are different products.
And every tech company from Oracle to Microsoft makes hundreds of millions of dollars selling certifications, credentials, and ongoing education to drive usage. Vendors like Degreed, BetterUp, EdCast, and LinkedIn command billion-dollar valuations driven by this growth. And this, of course, lets new vendors reinvent the space.
What they do know and perhaps you do too – are some of the vendors – Workday, SAP and Oracle. There are plenty of companies who do not purchase every module that these vendors sale. Next up on the ERP list of do you remember is Oracle. Clearly Oracle recognized this and went out and bought Taleo.

Until eLearning vendors bite the bullet, come to real standards on formats, and then the tools and structure can build up to support those standards, eLearning is never going to be what it can be. So, when I've been consulting with vendors who are working on any kind of authoring system, that was a particularly interesting standard. Can we develop the same project using : Java, JSP, J2EE, XML, Oracle, Flash combination? This certainly can be used. Do you plan to use the content for multiple new audiences in the future?
Many are affiliated marketing links – this is where a vendor sets up an affiliate program, and folks who are affiliates make money, when you click the link on their site to go to the vendor’s site. SAP, Oracle and ADP still have different applications for HR and learning, but the integration is becoming more urgent every day. I don’t predict the end of big systems like Saba, SumTotal, SAP or any other LMS vendor overnight.

I personally think what has hurt them in the greater market is the push by so many vendors (some of which are legit competitors) to refer to them as “traditional”, citing how long they have been around. There are vendors who include a payment gateway for those who don’t have one, but the catch is that they charge a transaction fee along with point of sales per item sold fee.
