Thursday, June 14, 2007 Personal Hard Drive Mark Oehlert made some very sparky comments as he enters into the "raging PLE debate." (I Mark writes, "You wanna know what a PLE is? I said a similar thing in a comment on Tony Karrers blog the other day: Isnt the main tool of the PLE our very own little brains?
It was interesting to read this because when I was writing about a PLE really also supporting my work - I didn't think of it in the context of ownership of the work product. Stephen's very much correct about a PLE being for the person. It is an interesting issue. Certainly, if it's in your brain, you leave with it.
So the PLE conversation has been, for me, framed in terms of the LMS and tools. How do you make an LMS into a PLE? And it started dawning on me that the PLE was about a revolution in learning -- about teaching people to learn -- about empowering individuals to take control of their own learning environments, their futures.

I promised I would continue the review today, right here on this blog, so here goes. The paper concludes that although some reflective content was created by students, blogs do not naturally promote deeper forms of reflection without some scaffolding through tutor intervention. An institutional PLE? Impossible or feasible?
Content creation is an important feature in many personal learning environment (PLE) models, and together with organising and sharing, makes up the cardinal triumvirate of skills that provides learners with a clear advantage. It's not the VLE vs the PLE. This time it's whether Twitter is killing blogging. I was only on the periphery of the Twitter vs blogging debate when I chaired a F-ALT (Fringe ALT-C) session late at night over at the Contact Theatre in Manchester last week. I believe that there is a synergy between blogging and Twitter.
This platform gives learners a lot of agency in their education, as they can construct their own personal learning environment (PLE).
