Last year, I built a simple Twinechatbot in 2 hours. In preparation for my demo in the TLDC eLearning Tools Summit , I revisited my chatbot and made some improvements to make it look more like a real customer service chat. This is a rules-based chatbot, where users pick from a few pre-programmed choices.

This is more like an AI chatbot rather than a programmatic chatbot. Twine project that reports to xAPI. This is way more technical than the projects I have done, but they definitely got Twine reporting to an LRS. She uses Storyline for the front end and Javascript to call ChatGPT for the responses.
The most useful part of this article may be the Sample Script Makeover at the end though, showing the process of using ChatGPT for a first draft but also explaining how to revise and improve the script. Many of the simulated conversations that we currently build as branching scenarios could be practiced with chatbots like this.

I use Twine to plan, write, and prototype branching scenarios (and sometimes for the final product). Twine is my favorite tool for this purpose because it’s designed to work with interactive stories and nonlinear content. Background images in Twine are responsive. In Twine, a macro is basically a little code snippet.
As those AI avatar tools start improving to do more variety in poses and angles so they’re not always looking directly at the screen, they’ll be more usable for interactive scenarios. I did a very brief demo of Twine as part of my answer. I had some great questions for us to discuss as a group. Can I tidy it up?
