However, with the passing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), that’s all changed, and there is now significant financial incentive to adopt — and properly use — an EHR system. Up until now the effects of these failed implementations have amounted to little more than lost opportunities.

Do you work in or favor a design shop where each person has his or her own role (ID, graphics, programming, QA)? Atleast in India, as far as I know an elearning division has graphic designers, programmers and Instructional Designers where each of them have their own role to play. Whats your view? They do not necessarily implement them.
Monday, May 21, 2007 Learning Styles as Fortune Telling My research into understanding the role of learning styles in e-Learning continues. Im struck by why I find this topic so interesting. And on that note, I think Im pretty much done now with my learning styles assignment. As a practical person, I tend to avoid theory.
Thursday, May 31, 2007 My Job Description I work at a small e-Learning company, which means I play lots of different roles. So, what do I do if Im not doing that? Im not such an anal person, so this isnt my favorite thing in the world. And Im really excited about the project Im working on. The website copy.

Im curious, have you had a chance to listen to yours or any of the others? Im happy with how they turned out. Curry said. Thanks again! 10:51 AM Sameer Lele said.
Those future trends include Spontaneous Learning Systems (SLS), Intelligent Mentoring Systems (IMS), and highly personalized learning services. Friday, May 01, 2009 Name That Tool I just got a FaceBook query from someone and I thought you all could help: Im looking for a tool you might have come across, but I dont even know what product/programming group it belongs to. Im sure I could do a better job describing this, so let me know if Ive been clear.
Tuesday, June 19, 2007 Using FaceBook Im trying to expand my horizons a bit these days and have been taking a closer look at a whole bunch of tools out there, including SecondLife and FaceBook. Im interested in how we could leverage that existing community for better communication, learning opportunities, networking, etc.
Im curious what other folks experiences has been. Im so happy to see you post this up. Im struggling with this right now. Im not on to trying to source another college or university to try out. I fill a support role and bide my time trying to finish a degree Im not really interested in. 12:20 PM she said. ".bide
Thursday, February 12, 2009 My Blogs Personality Type Well, it isnt very glamorous or creative sounding. An individual can (and normally DO) make use of different personas, i.e. social roles in different situations. Im an INTJ and it says my blog is an ESTP. ISTJ - The Duty Fulfillers The responsible and hardworking type.
Monday, March 23, 2009 Market Differences in eLearning Im a fan of the number 42. Microsoft in India, just hires content development managers, whose core skill sets is ID, but their role turns out to be that of a vendor manager and content reviewer, as Microsoft (in India) outsources elearning work to 3rd parties.
So Im going to try to mix it up a bit. Im still smiling. But Im wearing a different purple shirt. I should also show you pictures of me where Im not smiling. Clearly, your blogging is work-related and part of your professional role/persona/hat. Although Im professional, I do have many faces.
I havent signed up anywhere, I havent taken part in any of the sessions, but Im like a moth drawn to the flame: as I peer in on all the conversation beginning to happen, I cant help but join in. 9) Stephen Downes ( What Connectivism Is ) talks about the role of the teacher = model and demo; the role of the learner = practice and reflection.
But even within the corporate market, I know the roles of the instructional designer vary widely. Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. I primarily design self-paced eLearning programs. What do you do?
Im concerned that women will be excluded if such a focus is put on gaming skills -- or at least the gamer label. Furthermore, women are often in roles that hold communities of players together, Wolfcale said, acting as socialite players and leaders of player groups, or guilds. Im just raising some questions.
Im wondering if we should be talking about tiers of instructional design. Today Im feeling more like a hazy purple. Im wondering if in the carpentry example if a master carpenter would agree with you? Im sure a master carpenter wouldnt think so highly of the table I were to make should I take on such a project.
Friday, May 04, 2007 Rapid e-Learning, Templates, & SMEs Theres been a lot of good talk lately about rapid e-learning tools and templates and the roles of SMEs vs. instructional designers. If youre providing SMEs with the templates, Im not sure theyll be altering them. Im not saying there is no place for templates (honestly!),
They often use slick video to show a concept while a voice-over explains everything, so the learners only role is to passively absorb. Im not saying to leave the info a mystery; Im saying that Ive seen a lot of elearning that seems to underestimate the intelligence of the learner and makes every little thing painfully explicit.
Now Im not saying that SMEs are rats, or instructional designers are rats. Im thinking of Chestertons remark that theres a big difference between a man who wants to read a book and a man who wants a book to read. Cammy Beans Learning Visions Musings on eLearning, instructional design and other training stuff. Even a rat. Great post!
I think Im somewhat of an anomaly in the field. Maybe Im not an instructional designer at all. I think my dinosaur status as an instructional designer stems from the fact that Ive always worked for e-Learning vendors where the programming, graphics, and ID are distinct, separate job roles. I dont do any programming.
Im still a really hands-on person. Or maybe Im just too lazy and poor. Now, Im not linking to John just because he is full of praise of me (which is nice and somewhat embarrassing, I must admit.), Im with you, Maria! An inquiry class Im taking takes me into the mind of Sherlock Holmes. 4:35 PM Cammy Bean said.
My current business card says Im a "Manager of Instructional Design". And now Im here -- "Manager of Instructional Design." But at this point, Im here to stay. If youd like to learn more about what Im doing these days, check out my current job description. My point is this: I dont think Im that unusual. Hi Cammy!!!
Im not just thinking about the gadgets and the gizmos that you use or the instructional design "method" behind the process (e.g., Im excellent at creating ridiculous rhymes and ditties for my kids; I think I could come up with something interesting for a course. Im delighted that youre finding value in all of my ramblings.
Im a linear reader in recovery and have been actively learning how to skim books and not feel guilty about it. Although Im not in active instructional design mode for any projects right now, I did jot a bunch of ideas. those born between 1991-2000), Im a bit of an ape (no offense to apes, mind you). Do They? ) No boomers here.
Monday, July 02, 2007 The Gin System As Ive been trying to sort out the role of FaceBook lately, I cant help but wonder "wheres the content?" Then again, perhaps Im missing something. It seems to me that FaceBook is a great networking tool. You can point people to outside links, but I havent yet seen a great way to include content.
Friday, August 24, 2007 Building Community in Second Life: Renaissance Island As you know, Ive been trying to walk-the-talk and experiment a bit with Second Life, role my virtual sleeves up and see what all the fuss is about. Im trying to remain open to both sides. Manish [link] 4:13 AM Cammy Bean said. My exploration has just begun.
It turns out that Im not alone. The 32% average score and the stubborn lack of improvement regardless of experience, education, and age suggests that most people in the learning-and-performance field are unprepared for roles as designers of learning, at least as far as their ability to apply knowledge of learning research.
Cammy, you seem to have taken on the role of gateway to the edublogosphere! Just this week -- for once Im in the know. As Michael Allen says in Michael Allens Guide to e-Learning : "Learners think, Im supposed to do my best to learn whatever is here, so I might as well spend all my time learning it rather than reading about learning it." (p. And yet one could argue that most learners dont even bother reading them. 11:21 PM Cammy Bean said.
But Im learning. Im just back from two this week, and presented yesterday at USQs Pedagogies and Learning Conference in Brisbane. The role of instructional designer is not to go all "messy" or all "formal" the role is to blend the two. I admit that this post is a bit messy. Photo Credit: Audrey Johnson from stock.xchng.
In her comments on The Value of Instructional Designers , she observes: Just wanted to add that I think the role of the ID, as seen in Canada at least, seems to be one of instructional consultant. There seems to be a mix between contract and full time positions, and Im not sure how to read into that. Is this whats happening?
Im cammybean on deli.ci.ous -- try adding me to your network and make a for: cammybean list. The agenda went a little something like this: Welcome Introductions (Have everyone introduce herself and discuss role/stake in the project) What is e-Learning (I talked a little bit about what e-Learning is and isnt, some of the tools available).
Someone shows up at your office and says "Im here for the online training."* I've tried various roles to retake the test 4 times. Such as "what is your role as an online instructor to encourage participation" role? ► 2009. (2). No success of showing anything but the final exam in the gradebook.

Im not sure how this relates to danah boyds recent blog article on Viewing American class divisions through FaceBook and MySpace. Im a major geek, yet I avoid Second Life and continue to be skeptical about its use in elearning. This is a main way of staying connected to friends. A couple of people also had MySpace accounts.
