2012 has been an amazing year for mobile! In 2012 Apple announced the iPhone 5, two new iPads and the new iPad mini; Google unveiled their first tablet, the nexus 7 and later the 10″ version; Amazon gave us three Kindle Fire HD tablets. million activations a day, that’s roughly 39 million activations a month.

I a recent post, I shared 6 Trends in Rapid eLearning Tools to watch in 2012 and one of those trends I listed was the need for rapid eLearning tools vendors to have a presence on mobile app stores. I personally would have preferred Twitter over Facebook as the easy way to share screencasts, but that’s just me.

Each year, Pearson Learning Solutions puts out the results of an annual survey of social media use in education. Across the board, educators are using social media more in 2013 than they did in 2012. Comparing 2012 to 2013, the results of the survey indicate that the use of social media has increased 21.3%.

Last Thursday I attended the #SLCONF Social Learning Conference in London. It largely practiced what it preached – in that it proved to be a highly social discussion and effective forum for sharing ideas and experiences with an experienced group of professionals and practitioners.
The number of vendors who went mobile with tablets at the start of the year was extremely small compared to where it stands at the end of 2012. Standalone platforms that were designed for their system but could be used either as a pure social learning standalone or via an API part of your own LMS. Standards are Facebook and Twitter.
