Bad support and customer care is something you will not find when you become part of the Articulate community, I guarantee you, so this alone is enough to recommend the new Storyline vs. AdobeCaptivate. Storyline approaches making software simulations in a whole new ways as compared to AdobeCaptivate.
If you haven’t heard yet, Adobe made some news in the elearning industry yesterday. Specifically, they released their learning management system and AdobeCaptivate 9. First off, congratulations to my old team at Adobe for launching AdobeCaptivate 6. It has now been 6 months since I left Adobe and this is the first version of Captivate that I get to explore from the outside. The thing is, almost nothing I thought would be in the product ended up making in AdobeCaptivate 6.
A year ago I wrote a post entitled An Honest Assessment of AdobeCaptivate 6 [First Impressions] , which garnered 81 ReTweets and 62 comments, and to this day is the most read post here on my blog. It’s not even this particular version that disappoints me; it’s the overall lack of vision that Adobe has clearly shown in this release.
The new Captivate has a shiny new interface that more closely matches the other popular Adobe programs. Gone are the dreaded windowshade buttons that were made popular by the late, great Macromedia.

At some point, we started using Macromedia Director and that was a huge shift. For one thing, we didn’t have rapid authoring tools. The course developers at my first learning company programmed everything from scratch, which we then had transferred onto CD ROMS.

Back in 2012 you would have been hard-pressed to find anything exciting in version 6 of AdobeCaptivate, in fact most of the cool stuff at the time was coming from Adobe’s competitors, namely Articulate with their new Storyline software and their latest iteration of Articulate Studio. It’s hard to image a time when Social Media did not exist, but I was thinking about when Macromedia acquired eHelp Corporation in 2003, then makers of RoboHelp and Captivate, and how almost immediately the company let us all go, and in that single day, I was completely incommunicado with business contacts I had made.
