We’ll discuss how to design feedback to meet the needs of both novice and expert learners. In this interview, I discussed when to use scenarios, tips for working with SMEs and stakeholders, planning and designing branching scenarios, and tools and resources. I discussed the mistakes I made, compare platforms, and share tips.
Most of the time, our discussions related to scenario-based learning. The links below are usually to my blog posts with notes on the questions asked, what we discussed, and additional resources. This includes some discussion of the way feedback is used in branching scenarios, since feedback is an important topic for teachers as well.

On LinkedIn recently, a survey in a post asked whether L&D should simply become performance consulting (Y/N). In the ensuing discussion, a comment was made that the binary discussion was flawed, and that a richer picture was possible. In it, performance consulting is represented, but as she noticed, there’s more.

Most of the sources I consulted that had specific breakdowns by gender showed a 10-15% gender pay gap. In particular, Julie talked about how much of the discussion on the gender pay gap focuses on the actions individual women should take. Consult with your trainees to construct a personalized training plan. Many therapy sessions come in the form of a monolog, with the patient discussing their life in a near-monolog, and the therapist occasionally asking for some clarification or offer a suggestion. Offer specific consultation sessions for launching a new business.
Host a group discussion as part of your course. This is an element that is often missing from online courses, but it’s one you can recreate through a virtual discussion. Offer a one-on-one training or consulting session. While groups can be great for lively discussion, some learners are inevitably more shy than others.
