Content curation has been a trending topic in the Learning and Development (L&D) space for a few years. Like a museum curator who decides which piece of art to display, content curators filter and navigate through the ocean of information to provide insights, trends, andknowledge that appeal to their audiences interests and needs.
At one point I ordered up a truly engaging interactive and the developer with whom I worked finally resorted to a mashup of Flash squeezed into an Articulate shell to create the most creative piece to come out of the that shop. Perhaps this is why Storyline is starting to gain traction.

You could count on your hand the number of vendors even looking at it, and I’m not just talking LMSs/Learning Portals, but content authoring tools and other products. A couple of rapid content authoring tool vendors are incorporating HTML5 features in their tool, which can be used on tablets, and of course the iPad.
If you as the customer want to create your own API/Mashup or find one on the net and want to integrate it into your paid LMS, the vendor will charge you.
