Very few companies have strategy for social media–many say it won’t work in their culture. Politics of institutions vs. individuals: LMS vs. PLE. PLE: Individual surrounded by tools, people. not knowledge workers. those w/o internet tools. people on retail floor. Lots of tools used traditionally. Now, new tools.

But as I have tried to articulate in earlier blogposts , my PLE is more than people and tools. Well, an examination of this picture will reveal that I'm fascinated by e-learning and digital media in all forms and I'm also interested in social interaction and various dimensions of human culture.
Why should we question whether students have the competency to build their own PLEs, when in fact most learners already have their own PLE structure of tools sorted out when they arrive at university. So the question is problematic on at least two levels. It depends on what you mean by competency.
