I received another question from a reader today that I’m hoping someone out in the blogosphere can help answer. Usually I think of freelance e-learning developers developing content for a specific client with a specific audience in mind. However, this reader is looking for something else: Which sites, if any, accept e-learning courses from freelance courseware developers?

This headline raised a smile: Brian May, guitarist for rock band Queen, completes Ph.D. thesis following 30-year hiatus May began his research of the Zodiacal Light (astronomy) in 1970 and completed his research and thesis in 2007, following a 30-year hiatus to play guitar in the well-known rock band Queen. Probably not the most effective use of the spacing effect to help reinforce learning.

A reader sent this question to me today: I was wondering if you read Clayton Christensen’s prediction that by 2019, nearly 50 percent of high school courses will be taught online. Â What exactly did the author mean by this? Â Did he mean that by this particular date that nearly 50 percent of high school students will be at home doing virtual schooling or that 50 pecent of the high school courses will have an “alternative online option&# to the course.
This month on the Learning Circuits Blog - I asked some very leading questions If we have responsibility for informal learning, social learning, eLearning 2.0 , long tail learning , etc. then. Don't we have to conclude that learning professionals must be literate in these things? If so, then what should learning professionals do to become literate? Should workplace learning professionals be leading the charge around these new work literacies?

Overseeing the interesting structures built by students. Second Life class last night had to go on without me as I was "in-the-air" to Texas during class time due to the perils of air travel. So we had a guest speaker who covered basic scripting and some semi-advanced building. The class is coming along well and we have a number of machinima videos coming to YouTube by the end of the semester.

I have read TJ (aka the Training Journal) for several years and found it a good read for fresh ideas and CPD the face to face training that I’ve been doing over that time. However I’ve long suspected that e-learning was something it wanted to look down upon in order to massage the vanity and phobias of its core target audience of face to face trainers “face to facers”.
Last week I was invited to speak to all the teaching staff at City College, a higher education institution in Brighton, UK, which in its own words: Each year over 2,000 full-time learners, 13,000 part-time learners as well as many international and European students choose City College as their education provider. The main thrust of my presentation was to stimulate a recognition that the.

I had a nice six hour drive today with my wife, Margaret, who is an ex high school counselor and teacher along with all the normal credentials and masters degrees, etc. Part of our conversation was in my changing belief about the importance of learning a bunch of facts that someone can look up at a later time. Does a student really need to know all the state capitals?

Here is the class exploring NCTT Island. I am sitting in a session with Scott St. Onge of NCTT and Keith Morneau from Capella University who are providing a session on Second Life. So, I am taking some notes: The presentation will talk about history of virtual environments and a theoretical framework for Second Life in the classroom. They are defining Second Life as "A 3D virtual world created by its inhabitants.
Many organisations that currently offer face to face training to clients have wrestled with the problem of what to do about blended learning and how it fits their commercial model. At the ELN Showcase, Claire Little of SHL cut through the pontificating and gave some practical insights into how SHL had gone about making its certificate programmes in chartered psychology into a blended offering, cutting a 3 day face to face workshop down to 2 days + online learning.
According to the BBC news site: Service personnel are to be given university education free of charge after they end their duty with the armed forces, it has been reported. NASA Images was just launched ( press release ) and it uses software that was partly developed by my firm TechEmpower. It has a bunch of neat features that makes it fun to play with, especially the ability to create different kinds of widgets of groups and images and workspaces. Warning, if you go there and like these kinds of things, prepare to spend a bit of time playing.
Within a few hours of each other, I received two requests for referral to service providers. One request was for eLearning development providers from fairly large 5,000+ employees based in the US. We've looked at a few eLearning vendors and haven't been thrilled. We found the three US vendors expensive and/or light on good ID and the India-based vendors (Tata and Brainvisa) are priced really well, but would require more extensive project, quality and ID management.
Today I am off to the SAME-TEC conference in Austin, TX. The conference is a combination of three National Science Foundation (NSF) Centers. My job is to evaluate the conference for the NCTT Center for which I serve as an external evaluator (which I have done for several years.) For this conference, I have created evaluation instruments focused on the transfer of the knowledge from faculty at the conference to their students when they return in the fall.

Well, just over six months in, and I'm still here, albeit with a backlog of ideas/thoughts that really should be up here by now. So it's nice to find that this blog was selected as a Blog of the Week by the Learning Technologies team. A useful little motivator to step things up a little.

Good question about adoption of webinar software / services - this time from someone who went to my workshop in Cincinnati - Revolution in Workplace Learning - who by the way - called it "awesome." Here's the question: We are currently moving toward web-based training for an external audience and have been experimenting with a modest product called Ready Talk.
Customization is crucial for an effective LMS strategy. A one-size-fits-all approach no longer works for diverse and dynamic organizations. Customizable LMS platforms allow tailored learning experiences that meet specific company needs, boost user engagement, and seamlessly integrate with existing systems. Customization also supports scalability, adapting as an organization evolves, ensuring long-term investment value.
