I think this has probably got a lot to do with the fact that many of them have become used to being “spoonfed” at school – and have now become over-reliant on training as the only way of upskilling in organisations. But it is clear that there are also very many others in organisations who are not.
When we ask people to concentrate and use cognitive resources, it has an impact on will power. When you use a regular pattern you already know, it's the cognitive equivalent of coasting. Much less glucose used -- you're good at it now. short-term goals? mid-term goals? The long-term goals?
