The World Changers (TWC) Network offered free courses to their community, but had no way to monetize or monitor the engagement. The current trend of running annual meetings virtually has forced association executives to rethink their approaches to teaching and learning and social networking. Educational offerings were already a part of face-to-face events; but this new phenomenon has impacted investment and thus the quality of learning activities online.
Virtual events give your learners an opportunity to connect socially and add to the value of your course. Because of this, it can often be a pleasant surprise to run a virtual event that often requires less preparation, but can draw a higher price. Here are seven ideas for virtual e-learning events—which one fits your course?
The common denominator seems to be that they are tools that change online networking: make it more visual and provide more freedom. The Learning Guild, ATD, TLDC, Training Magazine Network, and LDA all provide both free and paid resources for instructional designers and other learning and development professionals.

Build networking opportunities at events. As you break into your industry, you can raise your profile by reaching out to others in your network. Industry events—whether in person or online—are one way to do this. Avoid anyone who is asking you to pay them for an opportunity to speak at their event. What NOT to do.
Our social events, networking and trivia, didn’t do quite so well. The networking night did have a small attendance but the trivia night didn’t reach critical mass. The platform also had one place to schedule events, but it was as web page. Not sure there’s an easy solution, of course.
