Kirkpatrick. Another model that informs our learning principles is Kirkpatrick’s model for learning evaluation : reaction, learning, behavior, and results. The Kirkpatrick Model provides the “why” behind the training and helps measure whether the training was successful.
We can do this by focusing on the higher-level kinds of evaluations — Kirkpatrick model levels three and four, or Thalheimer’s LTEM model levels seven and eight. However, while over 66 percent of senior learning leader s want to perform high-level evaluation, only 27 percent are actually doing high level-evaluation.
In the past, LMS vendors were staffed primarily with instructional experts who focused on challenges like the possibility of achieving Kirkpatrick Level 4 capabilities. If you wanted the LMS vendor to host their LMS on their own servers, you could – thus 100% online. Is Kirkpatrick still in play? The RCATs do a poor job at it, and considering there are a lot of folks today who haven’t heard of Kirkpatrick, why would they tap into it? I argue no.
