This August 21 article posted by Sharon Gaudin in Information Week reports that Half of Companies are Blocking Facebook: "Employers are increasingly blocking access to Facebook because theyre concerned about the time wasted and the information leaked when workers use social networks on company time." Tuesday, April 03, 2007 eLearning Guild Event -- My Sessions As Ive mentioned here before, Im extremely excited about attending the upcoming eLearning Guild event here in Boston. Im excited to go to as many sessions as I can. Im excited to pick peoples brains. And Im wondering if Im missing something really cool.
Im in that beginner-mind zone. Although Ive been doing this work for 15ish years, the ground beneath me is shaky and I feel like Im in new waters, navigating new people, new processes, new tools. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 Using FaceBook Im trying to expand my horizons a bit these days and have been taking a closer look at a whole bunch of tools out there, including SecondLife and FaceBook. Thats about as far as its gone.
Back to the Google Desktop -- Im playing around a bit with the searching capabilities and am seeing the light. Im struggling a bit with figuring out how to set the preferences so that it searches where I need it to search (I save most of my files to a shared network drive; not locally). So the search feature -- I get that and Im sold.

Im an instructional designer with an emphasis on writing and schmoozing. For the most part, I like tools that are easy to use, easy to learn, look good, and create good-looking output.

Im not talking about the quantity of my friends, but rather the breadth and depth. Im not sure if there was a specific tipping point for me, but I was certainly amused when one of my friends informed me that Im personally responsible for making her waste more time on Facebook than she ever thought possible. In fact, Ive had very little of interest to add to any conversation of late, mostly because Im much more focused on my personal life and the many transitions Im handling there. Im guessing youre designing online distance learning courses. Im in the weird place of for-profit education, which really has characteristics of both market sectors. Having just a bachelors degree seems to be fine as long as you arent working directly for the universities (Im not sure about K-12 online). What do you do?

Sorry you had that experience, but Im glad to know Im not the only one. They were coming at me in the chat, then IM, and when they started coming into my email I quit the program. Ive been into SL several times but Im very daunted about attempting to talk to anyone, so usually wander around by myself.
Im a touchy-feely-people-kind-of-person. Making the time to engage in conversations online does seem to move towards greater abundancy thinking and Im really enjoying the opportunities it is presenting.
