Me: Im an instructional designer. Im sort of distracted by the naked boy who just ran by (not mine). billbrandon had this comment on Twitter: I usually just tell em Im a writer. So what I tell people is my job is similar to that of a film director who directs a movie or an ad maker who visualizes commercial ads.
This movie should be required viewing for anyone in the learning industry – it demonstrates all the ingredients for effective learning. Weber also points out how effectively additional techniques demonstrated in the movie – like music, movement, and humor – open the mind to learning. I’ll be seeing it again!
He mentions that he loves movies and often uses movie quotes in songs. For example, I’m watching Storytellers: Kanye West on Palladia a couple nights ago (a great TV channel if you love music; and like learning, everyone loves music). During the performance Kanye starts freestyling about how he creates lyrics.

In the future of collaboration in the workplace, tools like IM along with other real-time applications will gradually replace email. It seems the younger members of the workforce prefer synchronous (real-time) collaboration tools over asynchronous tools. One of the areas we see with the largest potential is learning.
Disruptive technology: Restaurants vs. Frozen Foods Movie Theaters vs. Blockbuster Wired Phones vs. Cell phones F2F Training vs. Online Training A lot of current online training is not disruptive, still incremental. The CD ROM based training company I worked at did not successfully make the leap to the Internet. Cammy--you rock!
IMHO you are an instructional designer if you actually plan and develop the instructional content, whether for classroom, internet, job aide, etc. Just because a film professor has a graduate degree doesnt mean he/she can make a great movie. Im with you all. The instruction may delivered or produced by you or someone else.
Someone shows up at your office and says "Im here for the online training."* " Me: "Is the internet plugged in?" There is a special circle of eLearning hell reserved for when your own creations are used against you -- kinda like Terminator or Matrix movies, only far more tedious. " Me: "Exactly.
It conjures memories of terrible 90s thriller movies featuring Sandra Bullock in the prime of her career. Our conversation centered on whether or not companies should limit their employees’ use of the internet and social media while at work. And she felt this to be acceptable. I argued that they were both dead wrong.

Connected is one possible vision.
Its like the opening credits of a movie. Belatedly, Im thinking that there are relatively easy ways to enable learners to have cake or to eat it as they see fit. Im not sure I suggested writing WIIFM learning objectives, but they probably have their uses. Not sure if any company has try to innovate on this.
And by asking this, Im not suggesting that design isnt important, for it is - its seen by some as part of the pedagogy. Theres a line in the Jack Black movie "School of Rock" thats not original but is a common joke in the education field. Karl, Of course Im trying to bait you! 7:28 PM Janet Clarey said. those who cant, teach.
At least, this is what Im told. And as long as companies still pay for it we are all sittin pretty making some coin crankin out the Captivate movies sippin a cold pint. These folks are described to us by their managers as wanting to do their jobs and then go home and crack a few beers. Although that describes most of us, right?)
