I usually say "I create training that genuinely helps people do their jobs better." billbrandon had this comment on Twitter: I usually just tell em Im a writer. I create eLearning.

The need for just-in-time and just-enough information to get the job done. We are no longer tied to a desk and a building to get our jobs done. Tweet chats, telephone conversations, IMs, coffee time discussions – any and all of these can be micro-learning. The deluge of available information and decreasing attention span.

A teacher makes a leap into a new field and gets a job as an "instructional designer". IMHO you are an instructional designer if you actually plan and develop the instructional content, whether for classroom, internet, job aide, etc. Just because a film professor has a graduate degree doesnt mean he/she can make a great movie.

We are no longer tied to a desk and a building to get our jobs done. I saw the movie Cinderella over the weekend which has this line: Just because it is done doesn’t mean it should be done. Can they give just enough feedback or on the job guidance in one go to adhere to the principles of micro-learning?
