Several social media platforms have emerged over the past few years which allow you to create your own social network. Please chime in and comment on your experiences if you’ve used Elgg, Ning, and/or SocialText. "Ning lets you create and join new social networks for your interests and passions."
Consumer-facing Twitter and corporate-ready Socialtext Signals , Socialcast , and Yammer (to name a few) are noteworthy, evolutionary, and crazy cool. It is tough to stay on top of all the great stuff being offered out there, but the blogs and social media certainly help. Many of the blogs I follow are part of the eLearningLearning community. So, I browsed "Tools" by keyword on eLearningLearning. When it comes to free cloud apps, I also share them on my blog's Free Cloud Apps page.
