For me, I started working on my professional brand back in 2012, when I created my first online portfolio and blog. And to be honest, I had no plans of becoming a full-time freelance eLearning designer, but I figured an online portfolio and eLearning blog would help my career in the long run.

The biggest shift for me is that more of my work now comes from networking and referrals rather than from my blog and portfolio. An online portfolio is a requirement if you’re freelancing or consulting. Your portfolio is a way to tell your story about the work you do and the work you want to do in the future.

This could be your whole business website and portfolio with an integrated blog, all at one URL. There are also limitations to the types of files you can share, so you may have to host portfolio samples elsewhere and link to them. You can export everything to host it yourself later if you want.
