I met with my new first year level 3 students and during the session introduced them to the vle. Recently I started to record the time I spent running my side of the VLE operation. So if you are running a VLE how do these compare, please let us all know by replying if you have time. And apart from the obvious use, I realised that its going make an interesting chronicle of how my activities change with the rollout.
Found this really useful introduction to creating media rich resources. I have made use of Google maps a number of times in past as part of lectures and class exercises, and they certainly represent a good means of engagement, as part of a vle lesson plan.
Just into a new round of vle training in Moodle. The problem appeared to be that if staff were slow to take up use of the vle fairly soon following the training, they seemed to loose confidence and I found them returning to the course again the next term or later. We have now completed the rollout and trials.
This week thanks to some major groundbreaking efforts from my fellow Moodle VLE administrator Clive, we now have our DSpace content repository accessible through common authentication with Windows Active Directory via Free Radius server.
A great deal to see in a day, and I was impressed by the turn out of resources particularly for robotics and science, very impressive, very encouraging.
To complement our VLE at Bromley we have a Content Repository, DSpace. Using OAIster, you can carryout searches on metadata and associated resources. As content repositories increase in popularity, harvesting services such as OAIster (Open Archive Initiative) are becoming available.

One of the VLE training courses that I run here at the college, Moodle Web 2.0, Blogs are a really useful resource, its really a matter of fine tuning. introduces those features that are part of the standard build such as Chat, Forums, Glossaries, Blogs and RSS. The reason for this is two fold.
Essentially these are a collection of Ted Talk videos that have been ready packaged with quiz style questions, a Think section for open answer type responses and a Dig Deeper area for any further resources. Furthermore you can even add additional questions and content to each lesson you choose.
Apart from raising awareness for everyone regarding those things that are actually taking place with eLearning at the college, I also felt that it could act as a link to resources and news items in the e-digital world in general.
